With her black bobbed hair and her cheesy jokes, Uma's character steals the movie. The role launched Uma's career, however despite her new found stardom, the actress, chose not to do any big budget films for the following three years. Gattaca: This sci-fi thriller stars Thurman and her ex-husband Ethan Hawke. Uma plays Irene Cassini, a genetically privileged member of society who works with the Gattaca Aerospace Corporation. She later falls in love with the genetically flawed Vincent, played by Hawke, and troubles ensue.
